UPM Pulp will temporarily curtail production at its Kymi and Kaukas pulp mills in Finland starting in September. The decision follows change negotiations held in March, aimed at aligning production with current market conditions and cost developments. The Kaukas pulp mill shutdown will begin on 9 September, followed by the Kymi pulp mill on 23 September. Both shutdowns are expected to last for three weeks.

Marko Sundqvist, Vice President of Pulp Operations Finland, emphasized that the adjustments are part of normal operations. “We are adjusting our production as a normal measure in line with market and cost developments, focusing on profitability,” Sundqvist stated.

While maintenance work will occur during part of the shutdown period, UPM has noted the possibility of temporary layoffs affecting workers at the mills. However, the company has assured that pulp deliveries to customers will continue uninterrupted, with its pulp mills in Pietarsaari, Finland, and Uruguay continuing to operate at full capacity.
