The area notified or applied for felling in Sweden increased by 25% in February compared to the same month in 2024, according to the Swedish Forest Agency. The total area reached 20,856 hectares, with applications for permits for felling in montane forests rising 23% to 514 hectares, up from 417 hectares in February 2024.

Compared to the five-year average for February, the total area increased by 12%, while compared to the ten-year average, the increase was 21%.

All Swedish regions recorded growth in notifications and applications for felling. Northern Norrland saw an increase of 864 hectares (31%), Southern Norrland increased by 1,794 hectares (35%), Svealand rose by 788 hectares (24%), and Götaland increased by 762 hectares (14%).

For the combined period of January to February, the total area notified and applied for reached 40,123 hectares, marking a 27% increase compared to the same period in 2024. During this period, montane forest applications rose to 1,039 hectares, up from 779 hectares last year.

Regional increases for January to February included a 40% rise in Northern Norrland, 51% in Southern Norrland, 20% in Svealand, and 7% in Götaland. Compared to the five-year average for the period, this was an increase of 12%, and compared to the ten-year average, the increase was 13%.
