Koskisen is launching a comprehensive investment program in the plywood production of its Panel Industry business in Järvelä. The investment program will extend through Koskisen's strategic period, until the end of 2027. The first phase of the investment program will be implemented during 2025, with the total value of the related investments amounting to approximately Euro 12 million.

"In line with our strategy, we are creating sustainable growth, and the focus of investments is now strongly shifting to Panel Industry side. In recent years, we have invested heavily in Sawmill Industry: the total value of investments in the new sawmill and related operations, such as the log field to be commissioned at the beginning of 2025, is approximately Euro 75 million," says Jukka Pahta, CEO of Koskisen.

According to Pahta, the demand outlook for Koskisen's wood products is stable and will strengthen, driven by the green transition, urbanisation and the development of trade and transport. Long-term carbon-sequestering wood products are a key part of a more sustainable circular bioeconomy.

The systematic investment program in the Panel Industry enables volume growth, streamlines production, and facilitates the associated internal logistics. The planned investments also include the automation of production stages.

"The key objective of the investment programme is to improve the productivity, quality and yield of plywood production. As a result of the programme, the plywood production capacity will increase from the current 65,000 m3 to 85,000 m3. This requires significant development and investment in the machinery base," says Tom-Peter Helenius, Director, Panel Industry.

In the first phase of the investment programme, the focus is on developing the work phases related to veneer production. The plywood mill produces tailor-made and high-quality birch plywood products for light and heavy transport vehicles, die cutting tools, interior decoration and furniture. The largest customer segments are the automotive, transportation, construction and furniture industries.
