Andritz to supply equipment for Segezha PPM in Russia

Segezha PPM (Karelian asset of Segezha Group holding, part of Sistema JSFC) continues the works on production capacity modernization. In 2021, worn and obsolete equipment in the Lime Causticization & Reburning Workshop (LCRW) will be replaced with new and environmentally friendly one. Tatiana Balekhova, Director for Investments of Segezha PPM, informs that the envisaged measures will help increase the average daily output of digester No. 4 from 1100 to 1200 tons of air-dry pulp (ADP).

Negotiations on purchase of the necessary equipment with Andritz (Austria) have been completed; currently, the achieved agreements are being documented.

After LCRW modernization, Segezha PPM will be able not to improve equipment reliability only, but to increase the output up to 420,000 tons of pulp per year as well.

Since LCRW plays an extremely important role in the entire PPM production cycle, the upgrade of its equipment will improve the quality of green liquor recovery and reduce caustic consumption in scope of the entire enterprise. Therefore, overall environmental impact will be reduced significantly. Due to the improved liquor wash quality and its increased dryness, the waste of alkali containing green liquor drags is expected to decrease by 3-4 times. Thus, the company is most likely to avoid the transfer of liquor residues to ASP (Active Sludge Plant) sediment tanks and prevent their possible discharge into water reservoirs.
