Hergen has just implemented the Smart Sizer (Starch Application Headers) on Novacki's size press, marking a significant step forward in the modernization of its PM2 process and already achieving positive results:
- Reduction in specific steam consumption, due to lower water addition to the paper web by the Smart Sizer starch application system, resulting in energy savings on the post-drying section;
- Improved sheet stability, which contributes to less sheet breaks in the Size Press section.
In August 2022, Hergen installed the size press with stainless steel frames, increasing the equipment lifespan and reducing the maintenance costs. The 1,500 mm diameter application rolls maximize the quality of the starch application.
In this first stage, the press operated with the pond starch application system. Now, with SMART SIZER Applicators, Hergen has implemented a hybrid system (pound + Film Press), improving the standards of excellence and performance.
