Versowood entered into an agreement to acquire the business of the Kissakoski sawmill owned by Veisto Oy and to transfer operations to Versowood in July 2022. The business, equipment and buildings of the Kissakoski unit will be transferred in the transaction. About 20 employees in the company will join Versowood as former employees. The Kissakoski sawmill saws so-called small logs about 120,000 m3 a year .
With the acquisition, Versowood strengthens its position in the timber trade in an area of approximately 100 km from the Kissakoski sawmill. The Kissakoski sawmill saws 8-16 cm of logs, which makes the company's wood procurement more efficient. The unit will continue to saw so-called small logs, which will also increase the efficiency of sawing at the company's sawmills in Otava, Vierumäki and Hankasalmi, where the average tree size will increase. Sawing small logs becomes a lot of boards and beams needed by the packaging industry.
“The acquisition strengthens the Versowood Group's position as Finland's largest private sawmill and processor. This deal is a great thing for our existing entity. It will strengthen our position in the wood market and increase the efficiency of sawing in our other units, as well as ensure the raw materials needed by the packaging industry,” says Ville Kopra, CEO of Versowood.
The turnover of the Versowood Group in the financial year ending in June 2022 will be approximately Euro 650 million and the amount of sawn timber 1.5 million m3. The company employs a total of about 850 people. Versowood manufactures sawn timber and its various further processed products, planed, painted, strength-graded and impregnated products, glulam products and structures, wood packaging, telephone and electrical poles, wood pellets and wooden bridges.
