UPM Pulp, UPM Timber and UPM Communication Papers will start change negotiations on possible temporary layoffs. The negotiations are conducted to prepare for possible temporary adjustment of production in the Finnish units, should the uncertainty in the operating environment continue.
The change negotiations on possible temporary layoffs cover all UPM pulp mills, sawmills, and communication paper mills in Finland. The change negotiations cover approximately 820 persons in UPM Pulp Finland's operations, approximately 340 persons in UPM Timber sawmills and approximately 1,100 persons in UPM Communication Papers Finnish mills.
The possible temporary layoffs could take place between 1 July and 31 December 2024 in UPM Pulp and UPM Timber, and between 1 September 2024 and 28 February 2025 in UPM Communication Papers. Decisions on possible temporary layoffs will be made after the change negotiations have been concluded. Any temporary layoffs could be implemented in stages and could last altogether a maximum of 90 days.
UPM Pulp produces northern softwood, birch and eucalyptus pulp.
UPM Timber produces redwood and whitewood sawn timber for the joinery, packaging, distribution, and construction industries.
