Austria-based Pfeifer Group is tackling a massive expansion and modernization program at the northernmost of its eight locations. This includes, among other things, new plants for waste wood recycling and pelleting. The implementation will take place step by step until 2024. The goal is the long-term security of the special location for packaging, pallet blocks and packaging timber made of pine.
After extensive investments at the other locations, Pfeifer is currently focusing on its "Northern Lights" at the port of the Hanseatic city of Uelzen, Germany. The expansion offensive begins in 2022 with the construction of a waste wood recycling plant to diversify the raw material base in addition to the fresh chips from its own sawmill. This is accompanied by modernization and capacity expansion in pallet block production to 350,000 m3 per year.
Michael Pfeifer, Managing Director of Pfeifer Holding GmbH, says: "More circular economy is the order of the day. Of the 7 million tons of recycled wood that accumulates annually in Germany alone, only one seventh is currently recycled. We want to actively contribute to the efficient use of the valuable raw material in as many cascades as possible.”
Pfeifer Group is a wood processing company that manufactures timber products.
