Demand for spruce and hem/fir improved again this week as commodity prices settled out or firmed up. Sales of panels still struggled to get off the mat, though plywood prices did gain a couple of points.
In the week ending August 9, 2024, the price of Western S-P-F 2x4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$374 mfbm, said forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter. This is up +$20, or +6%, from the previous week when it was $354.
That week’s price is up +$35, or +10%, from one month ago when it was US$339 mfbm.
When compared to the same week last year, when it was $410, that week’s price is down -$36, or -9%. Compared to two years ago when it was $610, that week’s price is down -$236, or -39%.
