In January - July 2022, the exports of wood pellets from the U.S. soared 18% year-on-year to 4.97 million tonnes. The value of exports jumped 40% to $851 million. Average price of wood pellets gained 19.3% to $171 per tonne.
In July, the average export price for the U.S. wood pellets increased 8.7% compared to the previous month at $185 per tonne, according to Lesprom Analytics. This is 30% more than a year ago when it was $142, and 42% higher than $130 in pre-pandemic July 2019.
The U.S. decreased exports of wood pellets to the UK by 3.2% year-on-year to 3.1 million tonnes. Exports to the Netherlands increased by 57% to 864 thousand tonnes, those to Denmark increased by 100% to 353 thousand tonnes.
