In May 2022, Canada’s exports of lumber decreased 13.4% year-on-year to 3.1 million m3. The value of exports declined 31% to $1.24 billion. Average price of lumber fell 20% to $401 per m3, according to Lesprom Analytics.
United States is Canada’s biggest lumber importer with second-ranked Japan at 2.6% of total exports, while China takes 1.3% and Taiwan 1.2%.
In May, Canada decreased exports of lumber to the U.S. by 9.3% year-on-year to 2,9 million m3. Supplies to Japan decreased by 44% to 81.2 thousand m3, and supplies to China decreased by 65% to 41.2 thousand m3.
