The growth rate of the total revenue from the sale of goods, products, works and services of the Russian forest based industries fell by almost five times up to 5,72%. The most difficult for timber merchants was the second quarter, when forestry and woodworking were in the bank, and the profit of pulp and paper segment fell to the lowest quarterly level. In the third quarter, the situation has improved, but at the end of the fourth quarter logging was again in the bank and profits of PPI declined.

In 2012, the government began an audit of priority investment projects in the field of forest development. Some projects have been deprived of this status. Simultaneously, under the auspices of the Federal Forestry Agency it has begun the discussing the National Forest Policy and the draft law "On State Regulation of turnover of roundwood," and in the State Duma of the Russian Federation has been set up the Expert Council for the forest based industries development, which indicates the activation of the government in forming of the framework for the forest-based industries development.

In Russia, during the last 10 years the production of woodworking machinery decreased by 36.78%. The largest drop in production was in 2009, almost in 2 times, in the midst of crisis. After that, two years the growth of the recovery had been observed, but in 2012 this growth has stopped, and the production of machine tools fell.

In 2012, in Russia OSB board production hadn’t been launched, however, imports of these products increased by 51.9% to a record 603 thousand m3. Since 2006, the import of OSB to Russia increased by 5 times.
