In February 2021 the area of notifications and applications for permit of final felling in Sweden was down by 9%, compared with February 2020, according to the Swedish Forest Agency. The area of applications in montane forests was three times larger compared to February last year.
The total area of applications and notifications in February for the whole country amounted to 16,748 hectares. Applications for final felling of montane forests amounted to 517 hectares.
Notified area in February 2021 decreased by 37% in Svealand and by 11% in Southern Norrland, compared with February 2020. In Northern Norrland, the notified area increased by 47% and in Götaland by 4%.
During February, the decrease was greatest in Uppsala County and Gotland County, -55% and -53%, respectively, compared with February 2020. Also in Värmland, Örebro, Västmanland, Dalarna and Gävleborg counties, the decreases were large, with 31% to 49% decreases.
In Kronoberg and Norrbotten counties, however, notified and applied area increased significantly, by 78% and 77%, respectively, in February 2021 compared with February 2020. Also in Kalmar county, interest in felling is large compared with February 2020, with an increase of 29%.
Notifications and applications for final felling are still high in Halland County and Jämtland County, with increases of 110% and 60%, respectively, in February 2021 compared with February 2020. Also in Skåne County, interest in final felling is large compared with February 2020, with an increase of 67%.
