The notified area for felling in Sweden dropped by 27% in August compared to the same period last year, with an increase in applications for final felling in montane forests. This information comes from the latest statistics provided by the Swedish Forest Agency.
The total area of logging notifications and permit applications reached 19,061 hectares, marking a significant decrease. Applications for felling in montane forests covered 255 hectares, up from 145 hectares last August. Regional differences were pronounced, with Northern Norrland seeing a 47% decline, while Svealand registered a modest 1% increase.
For the period from January to August, the total area of notifications and applications dropped by 14% year-on-year, reaching 144,059 hectares. Northern Norrland posted the steepest decline at 28%, while Southern Norrland experienced a 5% rise.
