Industrial roundwood removals in Finland totaled 6.6 million m3 in January 2025, exceeding the previous year’s level by 900 thousand m3, an increase of 16%. This volume was also 16% higher than the average for the past five Januarys, according to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
Sawlog removals amounted to 2.8 million m3, with pulpwood removals reaching 3.8 million m3. Pine logs accounted for 1.2 million m3, spruce logs for 1.5 million m3, and hardwood logs for 132 thousand m3. Compared to January 2024, sawlog removals increased by 14%, and pulpwood removals rose by 17%. Among pulpwood categories, spruce pulpwood showed the highest increase at 27%, reaching 1.2 million m3.
Removals from non-industrial private forests totaled 5.4 million m3, marking a 14% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, removals from forest industry companies’ and state-owned forests reached 1.2 million m3, up by 26%.
Energywood removals reached 658 thousand m3, marking a significant 79% increase from January 2024. Of this total, 66% consisted of delimbed stems and whole trees.
