Wood pellets production in Finland decreases 2% y-o-y to 360,000 tonnes in 2022, according to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). According to the preliminary data published by the Finnish Customs, a total of 187,000 tonnes of wood pellets (-4%) were imported to Finland in 2022. While Russia remained the most important source of imports (73,000 tonnes), imports from other countries increased. Exports of wood pellets totalled 18,000 tonnes (+43%), and the most important export markets were Denmark and the United Kingdom.
The calculated consumption (production + imports – exports) of wood pellets in Finland totalled 529,000 tonnes (-4%). Deliveries of domestic pellets totalled 390,000 tonnes (+5%). The volume of pellets delivered to heating and power plants and large buildings reached 330,000 tonnes (+6%). A total of 59,000 tonnes of wood pellets (-2%) was supplied to households and agriculture.
