Sweden's area of notified logging and permits applied for was 25,701 hectares in November 2023, which was a decrease of 1%, compared to November 2022. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests represented 994 hectares, compared with 363 hectares in the same month last year, according to the Swedish Forest Agency.
Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in November over the previous five years, this is a decrease of 9%. Also, compared to the average area for the previous ten years, this is a decrease of 9%.
For January to November, the area of notifications and applications for permits for final felling was 245,854 hectares, which is an increase of 11%, compared to the same period last year. So far this year, the area of applications for permits for final felling of montane forests is 12,106 hectares, for the corresponding period last year the area was 5,635 hectares.
In Northern Norrland, the area notified and applied for has increased by 45% and in Götaland by 19%. In Southern Norrland the area is unchanged and in Svealand it has decreased by 5%, compared to the first eleven months of the year 2022.
Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in the first eleven months of the year for the previous five years, it is a decrease of 3%. Compared to the previous ten years, it is a decrease of 1%.
An increase or decrease in notifications and applications for permits for final felling does not necessarily mean that the area of actual final felling has increased or decreased to the same extent.
Statistics refer to total notifications for felling and applications for permission on productive forest land for final felling in montane forest and valuable broad-leaved forest.
