Sundsvall’s new Logistics park and SCA's new container port have been officially inaugurated. This means that a process that began in 2008 has reached its goal and one of the region's biggest investments in sustainable transport can begin to create benefits for the green transition in northern Sweden.

“It is very positive that the logistics hub is finally in place and that it also went under budget. It gives SCA and the entire region's business life even better conditions for efficient transport and it will be valuable for the future,” says Ulf Larsson, CEO of SCA.

SCA has collaborated together with the municipality of Sundsvall and the Swedish Transport Administration in order to be able to meet a sharply increasing need for transport through the logistics hub. Demand for transport is driven by offensive investments in northern Sweden, and better infrastructure can therefore contribute to continued good development.

“For SCA, about 80% of the goods are exported and that requires transport, which of course costs money. So that we become more efficient in the infrastructure will affect us positively both in terms of financial expenses and emissions per ton. So this is good for SCA, but it will also be good for everyone else who has large transport needs,” says Ulf Larsson.

With the new Logistics park, more freight handling can also move from the centre of Sundsvall to the Logistics park of Tundal port. At the end of 2023, the Swedish Transport Administration's parts in the project were inaugurated, including several new railway tracks that improves traffic to the port, and electrification of the Tunadal track near to the port.

SCA is organized in five business areas: Forest, Wood, Containerboard, Pulp and Renewable Energy. The core of SCA's business is the forest, Europe's largest private forest holding. SCA was founded in 1929 and has its headquarters in Sundsvall, Sweden.
