In June 2023, Finland witnessed a reduction in its industrial roundwood harvesting, marking a notable decrease of 13% from the previous year. According to data provided by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), a total of 3.9 million m3 of logs was harvested for industrial purposes during this period.

This decrease is further emphasized when compared to the five-year June average, showing a decline of 12%. The cumulative wood removal volume for the first half of the year, spanning from January to June, amounted to 30.3 million m3. However, this figure displayed a marginal drop of 1% in comparison to the preceding year and a more significant decrease of 4% when measured against the five-year average.

Within the industrial roundwood removal categories, sawlogs accounted for 1.7 million m3, while pulpwood contributed 2.1 million m3. The industrial roundwood removal from non-industrial private forests experienced a substantial decrease of 13% compared to the previous year.

The felling volume in forests belonging to forest industry companies and state-owned forests amounted to 0.9 million m3, indicating a decrease of 15% from the year before. Additionally, the removal of energywood stood at 700 thousand m3, with delimbed stems and whole-trees accounting for 47% of this total.
