In April 2024, Finland harvested 4.1 million m3 of roundwood for industrial use, marking a 12% decline from April 2023 and an 11% decrease from the average for the past five years. From January to April, 22.1 million m3 of industrial wood were harvested, down 5% from the previous year and 3% below the five-year average, according to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke)​​.

Sawlog removals totaled 1.5 million m3, while pulpwood removals reached 2.5 million m3. Industrial roundwood removals from non-industrial private forests amounted to 3.1 million m3, a 16% reduction from the previous year. In contrast, industrial roundwood removals from forest industry companies' and state-owned forests increased by 3%, reaching 1 million m3. Energywood removals totaled 392,000 m3, with 88% comprising delimbed stems and whole trees.

From January to April 2024, the felling volumes and their changes compared to the previous year and the average of the preceding five years are as follows:

  • Industrial roundwood total: 22,134 thousand m3, down 5% from the previous year, down 3% from the five-year average.
  • Logs total: 9,103 thousand m3, down 4% from the previous year, up 1% from the five-year average.
  • Pine logs: 4,174 thousand m3, down 2% from the previous year, up 5% from the five-year average.
  • Spruce logs: 4,489 thousand m3, down 5% from the previous year, down 4% from the five-year average.
  • Hardwood logs: 441 thousand m3, unchanged from the previous year, up 3% from the five-year average.
  • Pulpwood total: 13,030 thousand m3, down 5% from the previous year, down 6% from the five-year average.
  • Pine pulpwood: 5,841 thousand m3, down 1% from the previous year, unchanged from the five-year average.
  • Spruce pulpwood: 3,671 thousand m3, down 9% from the previous year, down 5% from the five-year average.
  • Hardwood pulpwood: 3,518 thousand m3, down 7% from the previous year, down 14% from the five-year average.
  • Energywood total: 1,660 thousand m3, down 5% from the previous year, up 7% from the five-year average.
