In 2022, China’s imports of softwood lumber decreased 13% year-on-year to 16,7 million m3. The value of imports lost 10% to $4 billion. Average price of softwood lumber gained 4% to $234 per m3.
According to Lesprom Analytics, Russia’s share amounted to 71% of China’s total softwood lumber imports in 2022. Russia is China’s biggest softwood lumber supplier with second-ranked Finland at 5% of total exports, while Canada takes 4% and Sweden 4%. Supplies from Finland increased by 33% to 882 thousand m3, supplies from Canada dropped by 57% to 695 thousand m3. Russia decreased softwood lumber exports to China by 8% in 2022.
