Canadian lumber production increased 1.0% from February to 4,397 thousand cubic metres in March. Despite this monthly rise, production was down 9% from March 2023.

Sawmills shipped 4,326 thousand cubic metres of lumber in March, up 3% from February and up slightly from March 2023, reflecting a 0.2% increase according to Statistics Canada.

In February, Canadian lumber production reached 4,352 thousand cubic metres, marking an 9% increase from January 2024 and an 11% increase from February 2023. This represented the highest output since March 2023, which recorded 4,785 thousand cubic metres. Following this peak, production generally declined until a gradual recovery began in August 2023.
